Thinking this one instead of Tent Ridge Carey- little easier ..
Definately a lot easier than Tent Ridge. I know they are working on the parking lot there. Just to give you a heads up.
How long was your hike? How would you grade this hike?
If you like steps this is the hike for you. It's not bad getting up to the saddle, after that it is very steep to the summit. Not an easy hike, but the views make it all worth while.
This hike looks difficult
Some very steep sections for sure😢
How long for the whole hiking time?
Our moving time was about 2 hours and our total time around 3 hours.
@LIVEONALBERTA going there tomorrow with my wife. We are newby in hiking community.
@Philip_Early_Retirement That's awesome it is a great hike to start with😁
@LIVEONALBERTA I went there today with my wife and our grandchildren. I upload a short video onto my RUclips channel of our hiking. Thanks to you.
@Philip_Early_Retirement Awesome, what is your RUclips channel?
july 2024 - closed temporarily due to bear activity - this one is going on my list though!
Definately keep this one on you list. I really enjoyed this one😁 Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Lovely! Glad you got to bust out the drone!
Thanks Emma, still have a lot to learn on it though🤣🤣🤣
Amazing. Do you have to drive on dirt road to get to trail head?
Ya once you turn onto highway 940 it's a dirt road.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video!
It's an awesome hike. Thanks so much for watching and commenting😁
what kind of drone do you use? great views. Im surprised there was no one on station at the lookout..
I have a DJI mini 2. I have had it for a few years now, still learning how to use it🤣 I thought for sure that the lookout would have had a person in it🤔
@@LIVEONALBERTA Drones are very cool that is for sure would also make it easier for me on my exploring trips. just fly straight up do 360 job done way easier bushwhacking with a good compass heading. I was surprised to see no one there., the helipad looks like a new one. i did all smoke mountain yesterday the wild flowers were stunning.
@davebloggs A drone could definately help you😁 how were the views on Allsmoke Mountain🤔
@@LIVEONALBERTA I have just posted my video and i have to say the views were stunning, I could see all the way from the elbow valley up to elbow falls area and way south to the sheep river valley. amazing views and a fairly easy hike. not sure if you have done that one but it is a great day out thats for sure and billions of wild flowers this time of the year,
@davebloggs Awesome Dave I will check out your video😁
Nice video, thanks for reviving my memories of my hike there in 2004. Anytime I talk to anyone traveling to Banff I always recommend this hike!
Thanks so much, it was nice to see it again in the summer for me as well. Glad this could bring back some memories. Thanks for watching and commenting😁
Intense!👍 Cheers from Okanagan valley British Columbia 🇨🇦
It was a tough one for sure😁
not been up there in years.
A long time for me as well going in the summer. I forgot how beautiful it is😁 Thanks for watching and commenting Dave.
@@LIVEONALBERTA from the inkpots if you continue up stream there is some nice exploring up that valley. also where i had my first encounter with 2 wolves . but they vanished as fast as they arrived, amazing animals for sure.
@davebloggs I want to go a little further up there someday, but I don't want to see any big critters😱😱😱
@@LIVEONALBERTA On my dawson loop trail clean up the other day i came within 50 to 60 feet of a large bear which started huffing and jaw chomping. and stomping the ground. that was good enough for me to get out of dodge, i had my bear spray in hand clip off and ready to go in about 2 seconds, unfortunately i snapped off my safety in the process, that sure got the heart beating.
@davebloggs Oh no, that would definately make me have to change my underwear. Glad you got out safe. I have only had one encounter with a bear and that was hiking Corey Pass. He was a nice grizzly though, just kept on walking past us. I can't imagine an encounter like yours. OMG
Love this one. Done it few times
I have hiked it more times in the winter, but so glad I did it in the summer😁
been here many times, always a great hike.
Definately, I forgot how nice it is in the summer😁
Thank you for making this video.. it help us plan and prepare for the hike
That's awesome, it is a great hike😁 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Beautiful!!
It's stunning in the summer and the winter😁 Thanks for watching and commenting Nadia.
I love it there! Cheers from Okanagan valley British Columbia 🇨🇦
Such a beautiful place😁 Cheers Rick. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Haven't been here since 2014, but I've been wanting to go back, but it just gets *so* busy. Never gone up to the ink pots! Should really give that a go at some point.
We started our hike at 815 and the main parking lot was only half full on a Sat. There were some people both at the Upper and Lower falls, but not crowded. Going to the Ink Pots is a little tougher but well worth it😁 Coming down people everywhere😢 Both parking lots were full and a long line of cars along the highway. Thanks for watching and commenting Emma.
Beautiful. Never heard of this trail till now. My knees hurt just from watching. Lol
I didn't know much about the trail before we went either. It was definately a workout, but I am so glad to have done it. The views helped take away the pain😁 Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
What does not kill us makes us stronger 😅 great hike, thanks for sharing!
I agree 💯% 🤣🤣🤣 I must be really strong now😁. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thanks for this great video. Helped me decide on a hike in K Country with a good reward to work ratio. Love this hike.
That's awesome, it's just beautiful back there, I want to get a few more different hikes back there this summer😁
@@LIVEONALBERTA spring got a late start this year. Plenty of snow off trail and runoff on trail a week ago.
@js1529 I plan to give it a few more weeks before I head that way. Thanks for the info😁
beautiful 😮
Definately a very unique place. I have done a lot of hiking and this place truly stands on it own 😁
Awesome I can’t wait to try this hike
It was definately worth the work, the views are so worth it😁
OK that was way to much up. my legs hurt just thinking about it. great video.
My legs still hurt🤣🤣🤣 I couldn't find much info on this hike so it was like my Birthday, surprises everywhere. Not looking to do another one like that anytime soon.
@@LIVEONALBERTA Not my kind of hike at all. I prefer to stay in the forests, It made my legs hurt just watching it, and that tree at the top across the trail i thought that one needs shifting hahaha. thats why I always have my saws etc with me.
@davebloggs Definately needed a saw in a few places up there😁
Thanks for the invite Cary. Yes that one was a challenging hike.
You ran up the mountain compared to me🤣🤣🤣
Are you using AllTrails to determine if it is trail right or trail left at the forks? Thank you.
Yes I have been using it for years now and hasn't failed me yet. Sometimes it is a little off maybe to the left of right of the trail. I always have my trails downloaded before I head out on a hike😁
ab.so.lutely. not. lol. Ridge walks give me so much anxiety, even when I'm not doing them haha. Was very cool to see into a valley you don't normally get to look down. Please tell Bill that his flower photography was lovely.
Emma it took me a few days to recover from this one, OMG. It's not a very popular one, so I didn't really know what we were getting into. The views definately took some of the pain away🤣🤣🤣
❤❤
Thanks so much 😁
About how long is the "rocky section?
It took us about 30 minutes to get through this section. It had a pretty good path through it.
Cool
I definately want to go back this year when there is no smoke. This hike has a little bit of everything. Thanks for watching and commenting😁
Brings back memories.
This was the first hike I did when I was in school, a long time ago🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much.

Another great video/ hike! We have done Baldy pass in the winter and have yet to venture beyond the pass, might be time to give it a go!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. The views were so awesome on this hike. I plan to go back and summit Midnight Peak sometime later this year😁
Amazing video, thanks for sharing! How long did the whole thing take?
The total time was 10 hours and 20 minutes. I hike very slow as I am taking video and pictures😁 My moving time was 6 hours and 25 minutes. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
@@LIVEONALBERTA Wow that's amazing! Very inspiring!
@Naked_Snake It's definately one of the best hikes I have done😁
Thank you for your job. That’s the great video.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting😁 I still want to go back and do the other half. It can be done as a loop hike but it is long. Definately one of the most stunning hikes I have done.

The Skoki Valley is in behind the Lake Louise Ski Hill. There are numerous hikes in this valley, usually done as backpacking hikes. They can be done as day hikes though.
@@LIVEONALBERTAthank you very much.
@ivyjeansugot1991 You are welcome😁
Awsome job Cary Love that mountain.
Thanks Dave, I didn't get to the summit as I didn't want to hold up my group. But I will be back to summit it this summer😁
Great video. way out of my comfort zone for sure. the hills behind there hunch back and lusk area are more my kind of place i like to be in the trees .
Thanks Dave. I really didn't know what this hike would be like, this I brought along a group🤣 The ladies didn't want any part of the scrambling. Have to go back to finish it this year. I really loved the views.
@@LIVEONALBERTA Yes the views are amazing thats for sure. but Im with the ladies no scrambling for me. I can get up stuff like that way easier than I can get down so i dont tend to do that any more. I will stick to the forest trails. I have been busy clearing lots of dead fall. some very neglected trails out there for sure.
Dave what you do on the trails is a great service. The knowledge you have is amazing😁 Thanks for all your work.

Thanks so much Dave😁 Its a fun little hike.
Hi! I plan to hike smutwood peak somewhere in july-august , do you have any suggestions on hiking gloves, backpacks, and how to survive this trail overall? Thank you!
I would suggest hiking it in August rather than July. Could still be snow up there in sections in July. I use mechanics gloves when I am scrambling. I have a 40l pack that I use on most of my hikes. When we did it in Sept I have a down puffy and with a shell over it, as that wind near the top was crazy cold. I also had winter gloves and a tooque. We were slow hiking this trail as we came down in the dark. The earlier you start the better. I had 2 litres of water which was good. You can also top up your water when walking through the valley, take a filter. The trail in the valley could also be really muddy, so plan for that. Poles were awesome coming down. And maybe have some cleats with you. If the trail is wet when you start the climb it will be very slick, so cleats will give you traction going up and down. have layers with you and plan for possibly a 4 season hike. The weather radically changed on us from the start to the end😁
Fantastic videography. What makes your picture so steady and what camera are you using?
Thanks so much Phil😁 I use a Go Pro Hero 10. It's an awesome little camera.
